Eggflation in Bermuda

Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, eradicated more than 44 million egg-laying hens across the United States and is responsible for hampering egg production. This has caused a shockingly rapid increase in the price of imported eggs around the island with the average price of a dozen eggs increasing from $4.28 in March to $8.71 in December; a 104% increase in less than 12 months.

In September we looed at Dunkley’s Dairy price movements over one year which was our first clue that something was happening. Unfortunately, we didn’t stock up while we had the chance!
